September 9, 2025At Resurrection Catholic School, our teachers make a difference in the lives of our students every day. One of those teachers, Mrs. Jenny Holland, has used their heart and determination to make a huge difference in the success of our recent graduates. She’s passionate about easing the cost of college for students, and because of her hard work, the last two graduating classes have earned over $7.9 million in scholarships—$3.7 million for the Class of 2024 and $4.2 million for the Class of 2025!
Rising RCS Senior Madeline Bodden recently interviewed Mrs. Jenny about what drives her and for this dedicated educator, the answer is personal.
“Having witnessed firsthand the stress and financial burden that senior year can place on families, I recognized an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives,” she explained. “I aim to ease the journey for high school seniors and their families, helping them access opportunities they deserve without being overwhelmed. I believe EVERY student deserves a chance to pursue their educational or vocational goals with guidance and support.”
Mrs. Holland’s passion has truly paid off. Her hands-on approach and strong connections with students have made her a go-to resource when it comes to navigating the often-confusing world of college scholarships. For her, the reward isn’t just about the money, it’s about seeing her students succeed and knowing she helped make it happen.
“Witnessing students receive news of a scholarship or acceptance into a program is an incredibly rewarding experience,” she said. “The genuine excitement in their voices reflects their pride. I absolutely LOVE my seniors and love being a small part of their journey.”
What makes Resurrection Catholic School stand out in helping students win scholarships like Lucky Day and others? According to her, it starts with a culture of service and leadership.
“RCS provides students with valuable opportunities to earn scholarships by fostering service and leadership throughout their high school experience. Students are encouraged to engage in various leadership programs at both the community and state levels. Additionally, there are many opportunities for students to assume leadership roles within the school.”
Mrs. Holland’s emphasis on community involvement, responsibility, and character development gives Resurrection students an edge in competitive scholarships. She also stresses the importance of early preparation. Mrs. Holland states, “Students should begin exploring college scholarships during their junior year. Although they may not be eligible to apply at that time, it’s important to be informed about the available opportunities. Understanding the requirements of specific scholarships or early acceptance programs can help students set academic goals to work toward.”
RCS alumni, staff and parents also had glowing reviews for Holland. Class of 2025 Valedictorian, Emersyn Grace says, “Mrs. Jenny was the best person to help me with all of my college applications and decisions. She helped me figure out everything from scholarships to which school was the best choice for me. She made my senior year so special. Mrs. Jenny treated and helped the entire class of 2025 as if we were her own children.”
Class of 2025 graduate, Marley Robertson, says “Mrs. Jenny is incredibly supportive, always encouraging her students to reach their full potential. Her compassionate, heart and her hard work is evident in the dedication she brings to her teaching.”
Mother of a Class of 2024 graduate, Tobie Decoteau states, “Mrs. Jenny was a tremendous help to our son, Micheal Wayne, during his senior year at RCS. She saw his potential and gave him the confidence to apply for scholarships that he thought were out of his reach. Thanks to her, he’s now entering his sophomore year at Mississippi State University as a Lucky Day Scholar.”
Principal Kristal Sisson expresses her gratitude, stating, “Mrs. Holland is truly a blessing to our RCS family. She never stops working for our students—whether it’s keeping them accountable for scholarship deadlines, guiding them through essay revisions, or requiring them to apply for scholarships. At RCS, we take pride in developing student leaders through clubs, sports, and community involvement. Mrs. Holland takes it a step further by showing students how to showcase these experiences effectively. She teaches them how to craft standout resumes that emphasize leadership, service, and involvement. She is, without a doubt, our scholarship guru.”
Teachers like Mrs. Jenny Holland are what RCS is built on and what helps to set this special school apart. Through her work, Mrs. Jenny is not only helping students gain access to college, but also building confidence and helping our students find success in the future. And at Resurrection Catholic School, those futures look very bright!
