RCS Sophomore Sophie Gammon Wins Inaugural Saint Carlo Acutis Award

When most children his age were playing soccer and spending time with friends, Saint Carlo Acutis chose instead to deepen his relationship with Jesus. He was no ordinary boy—wise beyond his years, passionate about the Eucharist, and devoted to helping others. Saint Carlo believed the Eucharist was truly the “Highway to Heaven”, and he lived a life of service, compassion, and extraordinary faith.
This year’s recipient of the first-ever Saint Carlo Acutis Award embodies those very same qualities.
From a very young age, Sophie Gammon has demonstrated a remarkable heart for service. At just three years old, she approached her parents with her piggy bank and said, “I want to give to kids that don’t have food to eat.” This simple but profound act marked the beginning of a lifelong mission to help others.
As she grew, so did her generosity and drive. Sophie founded her own business, Lanyards by Sophie, working out of her garage to raise over $10,000 by making and selling handcrafted lanyards. She has generously donated to organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, the Humane Society, and numerous other charities.
Like Saint Carlo, Sophie is selfless, mature, and motivated by a deep desire to make the world a better place. Her faith and compassion shine through in everything she does, inspiring those around her to lead lives of purpose and kindness.
It is with great pride and admiration that we present the Saint Carlo Acutis Award to Sophie Gammon—a true blessing and a bright light in our community. Congratulations!
