September 16, 2019Ms. Maria May Walden is the new Director of Religious Education at Resurrection Catholic Middle/High School. Ms. Walden comes to RCMHS this year after serving for two years at Resurrection Catholic Elementary School as the religion teacher and resource coordinator.
“I knew that Ms. Walden was the right choice for our students. One of the first moves I made as the new principal was to bring Ms. Walden to RCMHS because I knew she had so much to offer our students as they continue their spiritual journeys. Ms. Walden appeals to our students with her magnetic personality, compassionate heart, and intense desire to help them reach their potential as Catholic Christians. We are thrilled to have her on our staff at RCMHS!”
Even though this is her first year at RCMHS, Ms. Walden is no stranger to the field of education. After graduating from Moss Point High School in 1985, Ms. Walden graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) with a BS in Special Education in 1989 and a MEd from USM in 1994. After teaching in the Pascagoula-Gautier School District for twenty-eight years, Ms. Walden answered God’s call to teach at Resurrection. When asked about her favorite part of her job, Ms. Walden stated, “My favorite part of my position at RCMHS is being able to share my faith with my students. I enjoy challenging them to get involved in service projects and to evangelize others.”
Ms. Walden’s recognition of the value of a Catholic education is nothing new to her or her family. All three of Ms. Walden’s children are RCS alumni. “I chose RCS for my children for the same reasons that I choose to serve God here. RCS provides a family atmosphere and every event is centered around the Eucharist. Students are provided with not only a rigorous academic curriculum, but also many opportunities to participate in activities that promote their faith.”
The RCS family appreciates Ms. Walden. We are elated that she answered God’s call to witness for Christ daily to our students and families. God bless you, Ms. Walden!
