RCMHS is pleased to announce that Mr. David Pilger and Mr. Lazaro Rovira have been selected as the new Resurrection Catholic Middle/High School Basketball Coaches.
Coach David Pilger is no stranger to basketball. Pilger stated, “The love of basketball definitely runs in my family. I inherited my love of basketball from my father, who played college basketball in New York and coached me through my high school years. My brother, John, also played college basketball.” During his highschool career, Coach Pilger led the MS Gulf Coast in scoring, averaging 30 points a game, and was voted second team All-State in MS. He then went on to play at the collegiate level at Faulkner State in Alabama. Coach Pilger has over a decade’s worth of experience, having coached for 11 years. When asked about his goals for the team, he responded, “I feel like my coaching style is definitely to win but also to take those kids who want to go to the next level and help them get there. I also feel like I can teach the kids about sportsmanship and good character along the way.” Coach Pilger also stated, “I am excited to finally fulfill my dream of being a high school basketball coach and giving back to the kids what I have learned over my playing years. I love the strategy of the game and teaching the game so I look forward to the challenges ahead at RCS.”
Coach Lazaro Rovira will be serving as the other head coach, aiding Coach Pilger in leading the team. He is also no stranger to the athletics or coaching scene. Coach Rovira played high school basketball in Miami, and he has previous experience as an RCES Coach. When asked on why he chose to take on this responsibility, Coach Rovira responded, “I love RCS, so when the opportunity presented itself, I did not hesitate. I knew I could help the program soar to new heights.” Coach Rovira stated that his primary goal as a coach was to serve as a model of leadership and responsibility to his players, on and off the court. When asked on how he feels about his new position, he stated: “I am very excited and ready to start. These kids keep me young, I feel like I’ve worked so hard my entire life and now I get to do something I really love and give back. I’m really looking forward to this journey!” Coach Rovira also stated, “Everyone should know that our plan is for RCS Varsity Basketball to become an elite program. I will work hard to make sure our kids get the best out of this experience and not only become better players but also better people”. Coach Rovira is an integral part of the RCS community. He possesses a servant’s heart and has a profound love for RCS and its students.
RCMHS Principal Kristal Sisson shared, “We are very excited to have Coach Pilger and Coach Rovira take over as our new basketball coaches. Both of these wonderful men have an incredible work ethic, and they are truly invested in making our basketball program the best! I love their enthusiasm and desire to build not only great basketball players, but also exceptional young men. We are looking forward to seeing what they will do with our basketball team!”
