June 5, 2023ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Christina Thompson Hegarty, RCS Class of 2007
By Ava Borho, Class of 2024
Christina Thompson Hegarty is a 2007 graduate of Resurrection Catholic School. She was co-valedictorian and also reigned as Queen Victoria LXII. After graduation, Christina attended the University of Mississippi and studied exercise science, and then went on to the University of Mississippi medical center to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She currently works 1-2 days a week as a Home Health Physical Therapist and as a part-time Moderator for online health communities while she stays at home with her children: John Paul (6), Mary Augustine (4), and Cora Ann (2). She is married to Cory Hegarty and they live in Pascagoula, MS.
Christina’s fondest memories at RCS are of the love and camaraderie her class shared with one another. They have supported each other through the good and the bad, like fundraising for prom and picking up the pieces of our community after the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. These experiences strengthened their bond with one another and unified them even in the worst of times.
Her Catholic education, in her words, “impacted my life tremendously in the fact that it helped form the basis for my life.” She goes on to say, “If God is our life’s priority, I want him to be in the center of every day, every interaction, recess, assignments, etc. At RCS, it’s just that. I learned who Christ is and how he fits into every piece of life.” Catholic education was so formative for her that she stated how it is of the utmost importance her children have the opportunity to attend RCS.
Christina’s advice for any upcoming or current students is to simply love the journey. She stated, “It can be challenging but it will always be worth it, especially in knowing where our sense of eternity lies.”
