Colville, Bosarge Named RCS Teachers of the Year!
May 28, 2024Ryan Jordan Named New RCS Head Baseball Coach
June 6, 2024Coach Eddie Burgo, RCMHS head track and cross country coach, and the RCS guidance counselor, is retiring after the 2023-2024 school year.
RCMHS Principal Kristal Sisson says, ”Coach Burgo worked very hard to build our cross country and track programs from basically nonexistent, to one of the best 1A programs in the state in just a few short years. Being a former college track athlete himself, he knew the intrinsic value of the sport and wanted to share his passion with students! He has done an amazing job and leaves a legacy behind!”
Before coming to RCS, Burgo coached at Pascagoula High School for 25 years. Following his retirement at Pascagoula, he came to RCS in January of 2021. While at RCS, he grew the track and cross country teams tremendously. When he began, 3 kids were participating in cross country and 5 in track. Through his 3 years with the program, the track team has grown to have 35 kids participating. Mr Burgo says, “We went from having some talented kids to taking that talent and growing it to win.” Mr. Burgo wanted to bring back the history that RCS had in running and track events. He says, ” You have to look back at Tom Caffery who coached and ran at RCS, winning many events.”
Mr. Burgo’s favorite part about being at RCS was seeing the growth of the kids not only physically or academically but spiritually. He loved watching the kids grow into respectful young adults. Burgo stated, ”I am going to miss my time will all the students; the track and cross country team which brought me to RCS. I am not going far and will always be in the neighborhood. I am just one phone call away.”
RCMHS Athletic Director Eric Denmark stated, “Coach Burgo will be missed. He is a hard-working coach who has impacted so many of our students. He is a great mentor to our student-athletes. We will miss him very much!”
Mr. Burgo’s plans for retirement are to travel and start working to finish his dissertation. He also plans to play a lot of golf and go fishing. Enjoy your retirement, Coach! You will be missed!
