Coach Andrew Pickens, RCSMS Basketball head coach and RCS Maintenance Director, will be retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. After nearly a decade as a member of the RCS Staff, the 2022 Region 4-1A Basketball Coach of the Year, leaves a legacy that will be hard to replace.
RCMHS Principal Kristal Sisson says, “Coach Pickens was one of my greatest blessings when I first started at RCMHS. He loves our school and has contributed in so many ways. We will miss him! We appreciate the foundation he has provided our basketball program with over the past years!”
Coach Pickens has some parting words for future students: “There are two quotes that I live by daily and that I try to instill in the teams I’ve coached over the years. The first is, “BE. KNOW. DO.”. Be where you are supposed to be. Know what you are supposed to do. Do actually what you are supposed to do. These three words capture my expectations as a Coach.” RCS students will also recognize his other favorite quote, “TOO EASY!”. Pickens says, “I believe anything is possible and any obstacle can be overcome. My normal response is it’s too easy because anything is possible.”
Coach Pickens plans for retirement are to sit back and enjoy life and to go see his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, play more often. RCS thanks you for all you have done for our school, Coach Pickens, and we wish you all the best in your future!
