Resurrection Catholic School is proud to announce that five Seniors from the Class of 2024 have been awarded the Luckyday Scholarship from Mississippi State University. Seniors Michael Wayne Decoteau, Evelyn Lachausee, Luke Rodriguez, Ella Roth and Emma Roth were chosen from this highly competitive process that only recognizes a select few scholars each year.
The Luckyday Scholars are chosen by committee and awards this prestigious honor to students who are involved as leaders in organizations, demonstrate long-term service with community organizations, display humility, and show follow-through in the endeavors they choose. Students must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA and an ACT score of 20 to 28.
Established by the late Frank R. Day of Jackson, the Luckyday Foundation provides scholarship funding of $6,000 per year for a total of $24,000 over four years to each student selected for the program. Luckyday encourages students to graduate in four years while maintaining academic standards and community involvement. Through specific programming with the Luckyday Scholars Program, the selected scholars have opportunities to develop as servant leaders striving to give back to their peers, university, and communities.
RCS strives to prepare our students for life after graduation. Dr. Alice Lachausee, mother of Evelyn and RCS teacher, believes that what her daughter, as well as the other recipients, have learned at RCS helped them to win this award. “I had the opportunity to accompany Evelyn to MSU for the Luckyday Program interviews. I cannot express enough how proud I was of all five of our students that day! They all carried themselves in such a professional and sophisticated manner. At RCS, our teachers and administration regularly remind the students the importance of making eye contact with adults and being friendly and welcoming. Those lessons were evident as they shook hands, greeted people with a smile, and demonstrated their leadership skills in the group interviews.” Lachaussee added, “Dr. John Dickerson, University Associate Vice President for Enrollment, commented on how impressed he was with the Resurrection students and asserted that we should be very proud of our school, ‘To have 5 students here representing your little school really is quite impressive!’”
Principal Kristal Sisson added, “”Having five seniors from a small 1A school selected for Lucky Day at Mississippi State University is a testament to the caliber of students at Resurrection Catholic School. We prepare our students not only academically, but also – from the time they enter RCS – our students are taught to lead, to serve, and to push themselves to reach their potential. These five students embody the RCS motto of truth, honor, and integrity! I am excited for them and their futures where I am sure they will be successful as not only scholars, but also as intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.”
